A Line Describing The Sun, 16x24 archival ink jet print. 2010 Edition of 5

A Line Describing the Sun

A Line Describing the Sun is a two-channel video installation and sculpture project based on a daylong performance in the Mojave Desert in which I followed the path of the sun across a dry lakebed with a large Fresnel lens mounted on a rolling apparatus. The lens focuses the sun into a 1,600-degree point of light that melts the dry mud, transforming it into a black glassy substance. Over the course of a day, as the sun moves across the sky, a 366-foot hemispherical arc is imprinted into the lakebed floor.
